New York, NY — Alan Melikdjanian, the creator behind the popular YouTube channel Captain Disillusion, has teamed up with the creator-built media company Nebula, bringing his extensive catalogue to Nebula’s popular streaming service and signing a first look deal with Nebula Studios.

Known for his expressive visual effects and digestible digital facts and debunking, Melikdjanian’s videos have been a hit on YouTube since the channel launched 18 years ago. With over 2.5 million subscribers and 278 million channel views since its inception, the channel will launch on Nebula.

Alan Melikdjianian said: “This is an opportunity for me to grow as a filmmaker, to pull up all those ambitious ideas that we, as a solo creators, are used to tossing into the “impossible” pile and actually pursue them. I intend to take full advantage of it.”

Nebula Founder Dave Wiskus said: “As a longtime fan it’s truly a dream to get to work creatively with Alan on anything. Captain Disillusion is your favorite creator’s favorite creator. He’s the Chappell Roan of educational YouTube.”

Melikdjanian’s first look deal grants Nebula Studios the opportunity to bring premium long-form ideas to the studio for development and partnership. Melikdianian hinted at a scripted sci-fi series in the pipeline.

Viewers with a keen eye may note that YouTube has re-encoded some of Melikdjanian’s videos, degrading the video quality on the channel. On Nebula, Melikdjanian’s video catalog will be available to stream at the highest quality.

Melikdjianian said: “I’m excited about the creative possibilities on Nebula. As more roadblocks to free expression seem to be going up online, this platform is focused on helping creatives stay true to themselves, to produce their best work. And frankly, with the crop of brilliant folks already here, I felt it was important to join and bring the average level of talent down to a manageable

About Nebula

Launched in 2019, Nebula is both the largest and fastest growing creator-built premium streaming service. The success of the indie platform has been built upon the pioneering premise that the future of the creator economy should belong to the creators, and that philosophy has led to the release of many hit exclusives and originals. Nebula has successfully charted its own path in the streaming space since its inception — earning a reputation for being where creators go to develop premium content that wouldn’t be possible elsewhere. Nebula recently launched Nebula Motion Pictures, the studio arm of the company, creating a studio pipeline for digital creators to bring their stories for film and television to life with prestige. Nebula has successfully broken the mold with 200+ creators who are not only instrumental in rounding out the platform’s library, but also in building the roadmap for the company’s daily operations and carefully curating its creator community. Nebula has more than tripled its direct subscriber count since 2023 and more than doubled its revenue the past year alone. In 2024, the company was listed as one of Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Companies.” Visit nebula.tv to learn more. Stay up to date with Nebula announcements on our press page.
